On The Street......Greenwall, Paris

ok , I don't smoke and I'm not trying to promote smoking - so lets all agree to just look at the hair.

The cool stare and cocky hair make me not even notice the clothes.

Blogger MARIA H said ... (7:17 PM) :

so devilish...Nice!
yeah the hair, the cigarette, and the look...all of those are working here to make this guy a killer...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:54 PM) :

Agreed, Sart, but it's also the look in the face.

Sigh, despite my abhorrence for fags, it actually embellishes the look here.

I'm so ashamed. You shouldn't be though, this is a great shot and if not for the offending prop, it could grace just about any magazine cover!

mltt

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:55 PM) :

incredible!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:02 PM) :

extra hold hairspray or gel!

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (8:14 PM) :

Jeez, that's brilliant--the way that hair is gelled, unparalleled.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:21 PM) :

that guy is so cool looking it's virtually criminal. i wonder if he is a model.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:40 PM) :

If I were 15 years younger, that's how I'd want to dress, too. (Including the hair, sans ciggy) This is SHARP. Too much youth faahion is intentionally sloppy or gimicky, but this rocks in style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:49 PM) :

this guy has the sensual pose of a young Delon....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:52 PM) :

its like a standard haircut for guys in asia... he probably got a haircut in hongkong :S

Blogger Hebden said ... (8:56 PM) :

WOW!!!

Blogger Butch said ... (9:10 PM) :

Wonderful shot, so tonally tight yet also various--for some reason I think of Whistler.

Anyway, the expression, the sinuous earbud cord, taken up by the hair, which is like a ship's prow, only backwards, and the "nasty" cig and mouth...

...in short, a Composition.

Blogger ken said ... (9:43 PM) :

Scott, I love that you often devote your posts to portraying the ways in which young, hip Asians dress. I'm sure you don't do this 'consciously' because you look ultimately at how individuals dress, regardless of their ethnicities, but, really, it is such a wonderful surprise to log on to your blog and see some really killer looks on Asians, because fashion magazines and websites here simply aren't representing the true demographic diversity of this country. Thank you so, so much.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:13 PM) :

what kind of jacket is that?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:20 PM) :

I think its the photo composition itself that makes it so striking, the white collar shirt and the white cigarette, the pale face..against the dark background

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:01 PM) :

I envy that man's hair

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:05 PM) :

The hair, yes and the earphone wire that completes the electric look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 AM) :

What a beautiful photo - it looks like a modern version of a John Singer Sargent painting.

Blogger JYKW said ... (12:12 AM) :

he looks scary... didnt even notice his clothes because his stare is so scary i just stared back at him

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:20 AM) :

incredible shot!

and he does look like the type of guy you want to stay away from...but really can't resist!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:36 AM) :

now it's the girl's turn to be creepy and ask: dearest sartorialist- did you get his number? I think I'm in love. (sigh)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:36 AM) :

come to asia and almost everyone looks like that. although combination with the suit is nice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:42 AM) :

i'd only focuss on the vest
and the way the collar sticks out

i don't find the head that interesting...

Blogger Lit said ... (1:58 AM) :

Awesome! It'll take too much effort to pinpoint why, but awesome!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:04 AM) :

What a horrifying haircut! Altough I like the attitude...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:46 AM) :

He's straight out of some anime show...hawt!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 AM) :

Like a modern little Baudelaire ... great!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:16 AM) :

So Tokyo

Blogger RoseAG said ... (6:26 AM) :

Hugh Jackman in ?????

You can't do that with squeeky clean hair so all things considered that's how it's supposed to look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:46 AM) :

He looks kinda Johnny Depp.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:56 AM) :

I wish I could do that!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:06 AM) :

This guy is the epoitome of cool. The hair is pure asian. The cigarette makes it. I'm not a fan of smoking myself, but sometimes, just from a visual standpoint, a cigarette can be a good accessorie.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:51 AM) :

But how can you ignore the cigarette? It's all part of his glare! Great shot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:56 AM) :

Oh come on with the disclaimers. Have the strength of your convictions. The look wouldn't have nearly the impact without the cancer stick. Besides, it's unllit!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 AM) :

It would be unwise to discount the cigarette as a fashion statement/icon. Like it or not, it is a powerful image, and part of this look.

The hair is... interesting; I have my doubts about other angles.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 PM) :

asian hair is very difficult to deal with. i'm sure this fellow would agree :)

what's the best place in nyc for a male asian to get his haircut? how about in chicago? anyone?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:10 PM) :

it may be wrong... ok, it is wrong, but i like people posing with cigarettes! he looks so, so, you know what i mean!.

Blogger Tamberk said ... (10:30 PM) :

What a beauty!!!

Blogger ML said ... (11:39 PM) :

anon at 4:41 PM: best for asian hair types, in my opinion, is urban roots in chicago. it's located in chinatown. ask for ray.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:39 AM) :

Wow I get this feeling that he is meeting a Yakuza at the corner.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:28 AM) :

Even if I drank a gallon of minoxidil I don't think I could come close to how awesome that hair is.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:25 AM) :

im in love

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:28 PM) :

wow! so gorgeous! by the way, Vogue Brasil has a report about you and your blog! So nice! congratulation for u!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:31 AM) :

migod. I hate smokes, but this photo is just mind-blowing.

Wrt " come to asia and almost everyone looks like that" - this is so not true. I live and travel in Asia, have never seen anyone with this exact 'mood' in conjunction with the great suit with the stand up collar

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 PM) :

HOT

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:36 PM) :

i love the fit of that shirt with the jumper!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:38 PM) :

....oops jacket

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:13 AM) :

he just made me want a cigarette. i love how its positioned on his lips...just about to fall off.

Blogger Louise said ... (8:10 PM) :

A beautiful man. Cool hair.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:24 AM) :

Randomly picked Nov 2006 and well what do you know? Such a cool, bad ass photo subject ... he looks like he's really wants to punch someone's daylights out, which is great for the viewer but maybe not so much for the photographer haha

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:52 AM) :

Amazing photo! I cant help but wonder what he's listening to.
