Rick Owens is one of the many things that fashion is all about, namely, it takes a bit of thinking to understand what he's up to but if you do, you realize that it's not just pretty dresses and hemlines. His challenge to us expands our perceptions of beauty and craftsmanship and fashion. That's what the artist does for humanity.

Amazing, such fantastic shapes.

Blogger Gabrielle Pascua said ... (9:02 AM) :

It was definitely a strong show, alien-like fluidity but strong enough lines to give it a modern feel. And of course, dark, as always. Demeulmeester had a stunning show as well, I was taken aback!

But my favorite for Paris, so far has been Balenciaga!

Blogger Christopher Andrews said ... (9:05 AM) :

His collections get more and more glamorous in the most traditional sense, without being old fashioned. These are the clothes of now and the future. In their simplicity and starkness they remind of couture during the time of Charles James and others. Rick Owens is doing something no one else is doing and we are all the more fortunate for this.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:11 AM) :

I love the shoulder and the coats, so Owens with a "soft" line like Simons...anmazing! It's also cool the new "Tren" for the follwoing f/w: covered head with veils, like the futurism of Sander....

Blogger Fazal deen said ... (9:15 AM) :

The short jackets remind me of Charles James

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:32 AM) :

Somewhat severe but intriguing looks that are still somewhat practical. I wonder what the designers' emphasis is now with the exaggerated/over-accentuated shoulders on some of their garments? It is evident in all of Sart's other posts for the recent designers' shows. Even Lady Gaga's Grammy getup comes to mind with these recent fashion posts to me.

Anonymous fashionsdirtylaundry said ... (10:30 AM) :

This set design is perfect-- and you had a great view!

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:10 AM) :

Very Joan of Arc(h)angel. Intrigued.

Blogger Stephen said ... (11:17 AM) :

Makes me think of some kind of 'nun 2.0'

Anonymous Bellebonne said ... (11:31 AM) :

I want to wear all of it! What's so great is that these looks can be worn in LA as well as Paris!

Blogger sarah said ... (11:39 AM) :

strong and dark. its not my personal style but i cant say that it wasn't a good collection. these are great photos!

Blogger davidikus said ... (11:49 AM) :

I am always less taken by his womenswear than by his menswear but he has a clearly defined line & style. You can spot a Rick Owens from miles away.

Blogger Lentes de Pasta said ... (12:29 PM) :

PPPPPPPPLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Please, please... no more runways... they have no depth, no sense of being, not a single drop of individuality, they have no SOUL!!!...

I want more street, more little hidden places were you can do your beard. Or interesting accesories or so...

The runway stuf should go in other blog... there are so many other runway based blogs... let us breath some fresh air...

please, please, please...

Blogger Izzen said ... (12:41 PM) :

Wonderfully haunting.

Blogger Maestro Curtis said ... (12:43 PM) :

I dream of a world clad in Rick Owens, it is a good dream. But then I awake thirsting for hues of orange and yellow! -- Rick Owens should style Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt in these outfits, no one does bad ass quite like Monsieur Owens.

Blogger junny said ... (12:49 PM) :

they look immortal like vampires
these clothes remind me of vampires.

the winged shoulder pad jackets remind me of gargoyle wings, and the all black outfit on the man, who has long hair.

but the whole wrapping the head and exposing only the face is very futuristic indeed. Reminds me of I-robot movie where the faces were replaceable

Blogger mette said ... (12:55 PM) :

Now this collection is something I don´t understand at all.

Blogger Agne said ... (2:07 PM) :

very minimalistic! love it

http://sheisfashionholic.blogspot.com/

Blogger Heather Robinson said ... (2:08 PM) :

Well, he is definitely sticking to his vision and tweaking it. I have followed his work since he was in LA and it is lovely that he now has the resources behind him. That said, I truly don't feel this was an especially strong collection. But maybe I will think twice in a month!

A note to the gentleman that complained about the amount of runway shots. It is indeed, Fashion Week and there are lots of us out there that appreciate Sart's POV on the shows.

Blogger two four eight one nine said ... (2:14 PM) :

Beautiful clothes, great lighting, and wonderful photographs, bringing out the best of Rick Owen yet...

Blogger derekcooper said ... (3:34 PM) :

I didn't think there was anything simple about this line. The construction of these garments is an entymologists dream. It's some cross between futuristic nuns and beetle morphology. I'm thoroughly enjoying priest/nun aesthetic that seems to be emerging. (see Lanvin's f/w 2011 menswear line: those structured, priestly coats are amazing.)

Anonymous Marisa Alma said ... (3:40 PM) :

Rich Owens-weird and unwearable clothes. They look like costumes for a sci-fi movie.

Having said that, I have been inspired by all your street photos of people wearing great hats, so I bought a great hat. Your photos have also given me the courage to experiment more with texture and non-matching patterns.

Anonymous princessglee said ... (3:41 PM) :

Bizarre. Not bad, just is.

Anonymous princessglee said ... (3:46 PM) :

Ignore Lentes de Pasta, at least the part about giving us less runway.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:32 PM) :

he has a very distinct vision.

Blogger so said ... (5:26 PM) :

love this collection!

i always look forward to him each season. how amazing it must be to be there in person!

Anonymous Veronica said ... (5:36 PM) :

Rick Owens always struck me as part of the more dramatic camp of fashion - art over pragmatism. Nothing really wearable but interesting to look at it and consider.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:33 PM) :

ALIENS! HIGHLY STRUCTURED ALIENS!

(awesome aliens)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:59 PM) :

angels and penguins :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:11 PM) :

Such severity leaves me cold. I tried to imagine someone smiling in these clothes, kissing someone, showing some human emotion, but came up blank. And the non-eyebrow look? Hope it ends soon. I love minimalism, but this look seems soul-less.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:25 PM) :

I don't like it. It's simple but awkward.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:33 PM) :

I'm always amazed at how people praise ridiculous looks just because someone is a well known fashion designer. I know my fashion, yet this is so unattractive and ridiculous - yet fashionistas feel compelled to praise and defend it. How do these designers make a living? I can see very few people actually buying this garbage

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:48 PM) :

Actually when you leave out some of the more outre pieces Rick Owens is very wearable. And i say this as a woman pushing sixty.I had a long skirt and beautful flattering leather jacket which i wore to shreds.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:56 PM) :

Too weird for me but I can see a link to the Prada shots you showed us where flesh was an important design element. Prada used the knee and this one, in some of the pictures at least, makes the upper arm such a strong design element that the eye is immediately drawn to.

Blogger Lisa said ... (7:59 PM) :

Photos are interesting, but the clothing is not to my liking.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:22 PM) :

I like that he made pieces that have a purpose in cold weather. Especially like the hooded pieces and the way the hood fits. Wish I had that now. It looks like it might be part of the construction of the jacket but its hard to tell with the backlighting.

Blogger Joanna Paulsen said ... (9:33 PM) :

Futuristic!

http://slackandlack.blogspot.com/

Blogger Omare said ... (9:54 PM) :

It remembers me a little bit of last year's McQueen. But probably I'm mistaken... But still, is beautiful!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:37 AM) :

I'm intrigued by the angel wings. Even when these creations don't quite work it is thrilling and inspiring to see fresh experimentation with construction. Would that people dressed so interesting!

Anonymous Swan said ... (2:25 AM) :

Rock Owens is beautiful. Everything is looking the same to me, designers blurring together, maybe I am ill informed. But his work stands out, and always looks like his work. I like his particular sense of dignity.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:55 AM) :

Strange ... but I like the shoes.

Blogger hp said ... (5:19 AM) :

Play with silhouettes and cuts? Looks out of this world to me...! :)

Blogger Molly said ... (5:23 AM) :

Mm, I think Rick Owens himself is the best part of this collection.

Anonymous PJ said ... (10:23 AM) :

Difficult light to shoot in! Unique and intelligently shaped show, very artistic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 PM) :

Love it! The wings are awesome, and so are his boots.

Anonymous helena said ... (6:10 PM) :

that's beautiful. kinda looks like a brazilian brand, Osklen. BEAUTIFUL!

Blogger OSCAR said ... (7:37 PM) :

THIS IS THE BEST COLLECTION OF THE SEASON!!!

http://basicmob.blogspot.com

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 PM) :

How wonderful it must have been to be there! The strange beauty of these clothes speaks volumes to me. I am stunned, delighted, and challenged by Owens every season.

Thank you for including a portrait of him. He seems to have a strong, graceful stride.

Blogger 汪太太 Wang Tai Tai said ... (1:54 AM) :

I can see Cate Blanchett or Tilda Swinton in them.

http://www.wangtaitai.com/

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:54 PM) :

I agree with what princessglee said at 3:41 PM: Bizarre

and would like to add weird to the description.

Blogger JIM Designs said ... (2:01 PM) :

Love the wings look! http://engreidadesigns.blogspot.com/

Blogger THE DIVINITUS said ... (9:17 PM) :

i miss his darker, cyberpunk approach.

Anonymous ak said ... (9:58 PM) :

This is all why I admire both Rick Owens and Rodarte, they both have this great style and look that doesn't scream 'Made In Los Angeles', nor any of the stereotypical tackiness and loudness that may come with it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:54 AM) :

meh.

Blogger CAYA said ... (6:11 AM) :

One could think that it is time for Owens to put in some new elements in his creations. They still have a high standard, but they are not as interesting as it ones was.

Your Sincerely,

CAYA

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:33 PM) :

Sorry ... nuns in leather aprons working at a butcher shop?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 PM) :

This is purely and simply beautiful wearable art. Wonderfull!
Thank you again, for sharing your runway pictures: fantastic and inspiring as usual.
Ciao, L. x x

Blogger Bronson said ... (1:45 PM) :

Is that a snowboarding boot?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:01 AM) :

I love Rick Owens and this collection is great!

Blogger Danger said ... (10:57 PM) :

Scott, These runway photos are great. Fantastic, even. but you're The Sartoralist, the guy with the amazing eye for street fashion and the skills to capture it.

Let's see the street shots here on the blog-- Runway style we have every opportunity to see everywhere else.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:08 PM) :

Hamish Bowles is sexy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:05 AM) :

I agree with Danger
