Rick Owens is one of the many things that fashion is all about, namely, it takes a bit of thinking to understand what he's up to but if you do, you realize that it's not just pretty dresses and hemlines. His challenge to us expands our perceptions of beauty and craftsmanship and fashion. That's what the artist does for humanity.

It was definitely a strong show, alien-like fluidity but strong enough lines to give it a modern feel. And of course, dark, as always. Demeulmeester had a stunning show as well, I was taken aback!
But my favorite for Paris, so far has been Balenciaga!

His collections get more and more glamorous in the most traditional sense, without being old fashioned. These are the clothes of now and the future. In their simplicity and starkness they remind of couture during the time of Charles James and others. Rick Owens is doing something no one else is doing and we are all the more fortunate for this.
I love the shoulder and the coats, so Owens with a "soft" line like Simons...anmazing! It's also cool the new "Tren" for the follwoing f/w: covered head with veils, like the futurism of Sander....

The short jackets remind me of Charles James
Somewhat severe but intriguing looks that are still somewhat practical. I wonder what the designers' emphasis is now with the exaggerated/over-accentuated shoulders on some of their garments? It is evident in all of Sart's other posts for the recent designers' shows. Even Lady Gaga's Grammy getup comes to mind with these recent fashion posts to me.
This set design is perfect-- and you had a great view!

I dream of a world clad in Rick Owens, it is a good dream. But then I awake thirsting for hues of orange and yellow! -- Rick Owens should style Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt in these outfits, no one does bad ass quite like Monsieur Owens.

these clothes remind me of vampires.
the winged shoulder pad jackets remind me of gargoyle wings, and the all black outfit on the man, who has long hair.
but the whole wrapping the head and exposing only the face is very futuristic indeed. Reminds me of I-robot movie where the faces were replaceable

Well, he is definitely sticking to his vision and tweaking it. I have followed his work since he was in LA and it is lovely that he now has the resources behind him. That said, I truly don't feel this was an especially strong collection. But maybe I will think twice in a month!
A note to the gentleman that complained about the amount of runway shots. It is indeed, Fashion Week and there are lots of us out there that appreciate Sart's POV on the shows.

I didn't think there was anything simple about this line. The construction of these garments is an entymologists dream. It's some cross between futuristic nuns and beetle morphology. I'm thoroughly enjoying priest/nun aesthetic that seems to be emerging. (see Lanvin's f/w 2011 menswear line: those structured, priestly coats are amazing.)

Rich Owens-weird and unwearable clothes. They look like costumes for a sci-fi movie.
Having said that, I have been inspired by all your street photos of people wearing great hats, so I bought a great hat. Your photos have also given me the courage to experiment more with texture and non-matching patterns.

Rick Owens always struck me as part of the more dramatic camp of fashion - art over pragmatism. Nothing really wearable but interesting to look at it and consider.

Such severity leaves me cold. I tried to imagine someone smiling in these clothes, kissing someone, showing some human emotion, but came up blank. And the non-eyebrow look? Hope it ends soon. I love minimalism, but this look seems soul-less.
I don't like it. It's simple but awkward.
I'm always amazed at how people praise ridiculous looks just because someone is a well known fashion designer. I know my fashion, yet this is so unattractive and ridiculous - yet fashionistas feel compelled to praise and defend it. How do these designers make a living? I can see very few people actually buying this garbage
Actually when you leave out some of the more outre pieces Rick Owens is very wearable. And i say this as a woman pushing sixty.I had a long skirt and beautful flattering leather jacket which i wore to shreds.
Too weird for me but I can see a link to the Prada shots you showed us where flesh was an important design element. Prada used the knee and this one, in some of the pictures at least, makes the upper arm such a strong design element that the eye is immediately drawn to.
Photos are interesting, but the clothing is not to my liking.
I like that he made pieces that have a purpose in cold weather. Especially like the hooded pieces and the way the hood fits. Wish I had that now. It looks like it might be part of the construction of the jacket but its hard to tell with the backlighting.

I'm intrigued by the angel wings. Even when these creations don't quite work it is thrilling and inspiring to see fresh experimentation with construction. Would that people dressed so interesting!
Rock Owens is beautiful. Everything is looking the same to me, designers blurring together, maybe I am ill informed. But his work stands out, and always looks like his work. I like his particular sense of dignity.

This is all why I admire both Rick Owens and Rodarte, they both have this great style and look that doesn't scream 'Made In Los Angeles', nor any of the stereotypical tackiness and loudness that may come with it.
meh.
One could think that it is time for Owens to put in some new elements in his creations. They still have a high standard, but they are not as interesting as it ones was.
