Comments on "On the Street.....Left Bank Parisians"
The women are fabulous for sure. The gent on the right, I like the coat- probably quite warm. The idea of cropped pants (I thought) was that they would be anchored by very heavy-looking round toe shoes, like Church's. The look is quite different with pointed dainty shoes, IMO. Are they really anti-establishment or are they really trust fund babies looking like they are roughing it through their college years? Jorge from W Palm Beach
...and that IS a 1970s women's coat.
A group of outstanding people, like it:)
Toulouse Lautrec would find them inspirational.
c´est ça qui j´aime!!!
Love the sheepskin coat tied around the middle! i like the balance of the slighty too small hat and his cropped pants and light shoes. the colours are great too. i'm guessing he's an artist!
If he got rid of the belt over the coat I would like it a little better and it wouldn't look so feminine (to me). I think the gentleman in the green plaid Number 9 coat did the feminine look better. They are women's coats, right?
in my opinion it makes no sense for men wearing a ladies coat. the cut is for a womans body, you know what i mean?
thanx.
A litle bit too much ! too show off for Paris...
Very Zazou
oh i LOVE This * * * *
the coat is all alone here...never want one piece to speak for the whole outfit, too gauche
don't see what's good about these.
to the person who said it makes no sense for a man to wear a ladies coat. I think now days things are becoming more unisex, and I appreciate this guy's self expression. I can't really tell if it's a ladies coat anyhow. It looks like it fits him fine, so whats the fuss?!
Thinking out of the box is one thing... making sure you go in the right direction is another.
While fashion may be subjective, proportions and fit are not.
The guy's hair colour and cut is what really makes this outfit.
And the dark touch of aubergine on the shirt.
He pulls it off, but only if the coat were shorter and without the belt could I fancy him :)
oh i love this one, it's the kind of photograph that make me come back to your blog more than once a day, i love the black and the warm earthy tones and their smiles.

Wow, this shot reminds me of the beat generation. Absolutely my favorite one so far. My god, you're brilliant. xo
ohh la la...
His mischievous facial expression is what sells his outfit. I could also see him with a large fur coat, a la Edward Gorey. Well played!
cool gathering of people...
every single one of them very special carachters
The guy in the woman's coat has just the right atitude to pull it off. He's having fun but it still works and I don't think the coat is "alone"- hat, shoes, shirt, pants, and his hair are all working with it. It would be interesting to see the coat without the belt- I think it might look even better. A fun shot.
I like this!
I wonder what they're talking about.....
Great to see a real friend being portraited here for the first time!
He was my first boylove, and he got his fantastic fugly style when he moved to London.
Love him!
the guy's look is overly effeminate. boldness does not always equal style. that coat could look great on a more masculine, rougher guy/man. otherwise, the whole thing is just out of balance.
Grandma's coat? A bookend to the shot from a few days ago, of the woman wearing Grandpa's coat.
Would'ya look at that smirk? No one loves what he's wearing more than he does. Rightly so. I love how he starts out from the black and shiny wet street with his shoes and trousers and becomes all shades of brown and auburn with that cocky hat like an expletive on top of his head... like he sprouted there. And Leopard Girl's beret and gloves match.
vive la france...
a very poofy old coat
Ouuh la lalaaa you gotta give it to the french, their confident and erratic fashion sense is unparalleled...fabulous bunch lol Concerning the man in the "woman" 70's coat..regardless of the minor fitting details, Im sure his personality is correlated to his style of garments (thus making him a true sartorialist) and I think in the end that's the beauty of it "wearing to express" (D. Miller from Barker black).
This trend of women's coat wearing men is taking off more than one might think I come to realize.
I think you used to shoot more people with personal style that came about totally organically, but now you seem to mostly shoot men and women in high end, expensive garments, where it can be more difficult to "go wrong". I am happy to see some real people here who dress to express--regardless of where the clothing came from!
It's a women's coat!!
But I love this picture.
adorable, i want to meet them all.
Happy People!
Neo-hippies.
I'm not so sure... but they look warm.
That leopard-print jacket is unapologetically hideous. Being anti-establishment / contrarian / whatever shouldn't be an excuse - or a reason - to wear that thing.
omg, could these people be anymore FRENCH!?
Men in anything with princess seams is a big no no in my book. But, perhaps I am being too traditional.
People! so what if it's a woman's coat?? The dude can work it - he even got his picture on The Sartorialist today...
j'aime les rouges! very cute.
their attitude is better than their style, and attitude is everything.
As Aerosmith so famously put it..."Dude looks like a lady".
I love this picture! So much energy and fur!
This month's pictures have been absolutely fantastic, Sart.
I wish I lived in Europe!
I love the colours in this!

Usually your b&w photos are exquisite, but this one is pure color painting...
that boy is so adorable, i enjoy his hair and it looks as if what is under the coat, with the colors of the shirt and tie looks like he is doing something well.
the man with had just made me smile, he looks old style Havana meets Europe and go for a stroll on the park lovely
oh yes, I love it. It's stylish, yet SO decadently french! Great choice of subjects/clothing/styling.
The spirit of Rive Gauche comes alive in this photo. I can almost hear the nonchanlant comments followed by girlish giggles.
Really, really cute! All of them!
oh my god, that fellow is amazing!
LOL! He looks so hip! Love the coat! :)
On paper I would probably not much like what this dude is wearing (woman's coat, highwater straight legs) but his attitude and youth and surrounding himself with friends of the same feather make it all work. Obviously not a look for everyone.
wonderful--the hat and stubble makes this perfect. otherwise it would be just weird.
my favorite parts: that little smirky expression on the man's face, and the orange hair/blue beret combo. this photograph is stunning.
Has anyone mentioned the orange haired theme that runs in variations among them?
I find as a texture it contributes to the overall effect of this picture.
FU#%.. finally. someone having fun with syle.
Les Bohemians! I love it!!!

Lots to like about this photograph.
Having fun with clothes. What's so wrong about that? -John/SF
Love this picture! They all look fantastic. The girl with the red hair and that smile makes this picture fabulous.
Great photo of real people showing original style. I'm sure they don't care what anyone else thinks of their outfits and that's what makes them cool.
yum-ful personality, here. i want to kiss them
I want to be the girl in the leopard print coat. C'est magnifique!
It's like they're talking about whoever is looking at them, right now. Lovely.
So gipsy chic !!
And they are all red hairs... Love the small hat on guy's head , very 60's.
it could be a cover for a Bruce Benderson book.

London goes to Paris! Student chic with bounty of thrift store bagins. Loves it!
Can't go with this, sorry folks.
The colors are fine, and so is his self-confidence, but his mom's coat has to go back to her closet.

I had a coat like that in 1969. It had belonged to my mother and was from the thirties. A furrier in Prague, working in his own flat, had adapted it for me and I wore a leather belt which clinched my waist really thin. I travelled to London in it forty years ago to the day. I was sixteen. Nothing changes in life or fashion.
great coats
love his outfit! so epic
i never knew a fedora and leopard print
were " left bank"
Wow, is this for real? Love the group of people!
he went to my school here in sweden. a very nice guy and I love what he's wearing
But they look so RIGHT bank. He belongs in the 20th, not the 6th...
