I love those shorts so much.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:22 PM) :

gorgeous.

Blogger Finsen said ... (11:50 PM) :

How do you usually approach your subject and getting them to pose for your picture? Do you just go up to them and ask nicely? Or do you have a secret strategy?

Thanks!

Blogger Candace said ... (11:52 PM) :

Wow, those eyes...soft yet so intense!

Blogger ME BUDDHA BANANA said ... (11:52 PM) :

oh wow, love her pleated plaid shorts....you should go to manila too

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:00 AM) :

Great work, Sart.

Blogger SophieA said ... (12:04 AM) :

love her confidence!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:10 AM) :

Gorgeous! Normally I would cringe at the pattern on the shirt, but the way she's put this look together makes it work.
Love the well-placed smear of silver beneath the eyes...daring but not too flashy.

Blogger deborah said ... (12:13 AM) :

i think india has been my favourite satorialist location - ever.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:16 AM) :

stunning. refreshing. and inspiring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:54 AM) :

beautiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:56 AM) :

lovely color and pattern combo

Blogger Kallol Datta 1955 said ... (1:03 AM) :

that's Sohiny Das....she is one of the best fashion Stylists and Critics we have in India...and she is always so comfortable in her own skin....lurve the wooden bangle and the shirt...x

cheers mr.S

Blogger Danika said ... (1:33 AM) :

She looks beautiful. I love the understated make up, and her colors go together really really well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:36 AM) :

i could NEVER pull that off. but she does and does it well.

i love that in a country of 1 billion where you've presumably not been before, you still manage to find people who are famous in the fashion industry! these pics are great!

Blogger lorrwill said ... (1:41 AM) :

Citizen, my thoughts exactly on the shirt. For whatever reason, I love this here. She put it together and pulled it with pizazz.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:49 AM) :

So great! Are you in Delhi for the fashion week? I'm really glad you haven't posted the usual 'tourist' photos of India. Will you come to Mumbai as well?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:58 AM) :

stockings outdoors in delhi?
she must be sweating.
but i guess pride feels no pain.

I dont know, I dont feel like this look is honest.

Blogger Alya said ... (2:05 AM) :

This may seem narrow-minded but I never pictured India to have stylish people like this walking the streets. I was told the streets were full of beggars and whatnot.

I know that they have overwhelmingly beautiful people, but the people u featured r so fresh and innovative. A bit of a change after the 'Fashion WEEKS'

Blogger Malarki said ... (2:05 AM) :

COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES. Being Indian myself( Though I do not live there) I could not believe something so progressive and uber mordern could be seen on an Indian street! It looks like she walked out of a Marc Jacobs runway show. I love the masculinity of the whole outfit from that retro, buttoned shirt to those folded up shorts(probably her dads).PERFECT!

Blogger Scent Hive said ... (2:15 AM) :

This is the first time I have actually liked the "sandals and tights" look. I am loving that blouse too, what a fantastic pattern.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:17 AM) :

She makes slouchy masculinity look adorable. The white shoes with those big bows are so endearing, they make me want to strike up a conversation with her.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:39 AM) :

wow she is so beautiful!

I love it! the colors, the boy looking shirt & shorts. Especially how she has eyeshadow at the bottom instead.

Blogger gabrielazeanadal@hotmail.com said ... (6:49 AM) :

This girl has a very interesting mix of strength and innocence. The top picture with that Close Up is brilliant. The white background with all those old textures is very mysterious; it somehow looks as if she was in a cloud. The blouse and those shorts create a very interesting mix of patterns and colours. Very special shots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:40 AM) :

Perfect, just beautiful.

Blogger stephen said ... (7:46 AM) :

really amazing play on patterns and textures at play here. It's extremely smart.

And the shoes are the best.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:59 AM) :

Wow!

I love your take on things.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:23 AM) :

Are you her in India to cover the fashion week?
welcome to India, real glad to see my country through your lenses.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:31 AM) :

there's not too much looking good in india. :/

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:34 AM) :

From one extreme to another. Sart covers it all. He is managing to find a high percentage of people in the fashion industry though, who are probably non-representative of the mainstream.

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (8:45 AM) :

She looks so lovely!

Blogger Sophia said ... (8:50 AM) :

so sweet and so tough. perfect!

Blogger La Terpette said ... (9:14 AM) :

She looks great! That silver liner takes the whole look up a notch.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:40 AM) :

These India shots are very refreshing, and remind me that style is all about people and what they have on the inside too-- personal choice and vision, not just money. Very touching and energizing-- and your eye is marvelous as always.

Blogger froogal said ... (9:46 AM) :

are these up-cycled mens trousers?...once again, I am inspired by the subtle plaid with the sweet floral shirt....love the combination.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 AM) :

I love it. Good work, Sart! I am impressed at the intensity she creates just by lining her waterline. Nice.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:04 AM) :

WOW! this ought to be on the cover of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC..
considering most of us in the world have black hair, brownish eyes, and chocolate skin.. this girl serves as a wonderful stylish antidote to the bias towards white westerners... thanks, for rebalancing our mindsets.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:18 AM) :

I love this look. I love the baggy man pants made into shorts along with the patterned black tights, and the soft floral shirt that ties in with the shoes. Very clever.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:34 AM) :

GORGEOUS! Not only the bows on her sandals, but the pattern of her tights, trousers and blouse - what a daring combination! How old is she?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:42 AM) :

The way she's wearing the blouse is very interesting to me. Buttoning it all the way up gives it a stronger vertical and emphasizes the collar shape, but then the casual pushing up of the sleeves prevents it from looking prim, which the print could easily lean toward. Nice.

Blogger Coryn said ... (10:44 AM) :

The shorts and tights look excellent! I'm a fan of this outfit!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:56 AM) :

This version of the sandals and tights look is so inspiring because it plays against the masculine shorts. The detail of the bracelet adds heft to this interesting combination of gender-blending styles. I might have liked to see a belt, and/or a bag. The eye makeup is sleek - a lovely touch.

Blogger amyw said ... (10:57 AM) :

i love this picture. i love every sartorialist picture, but this one is especially cool. i would kill for those shorts! i love the slouchyness yet clean lines of them. the black tights go extremely well with everything. this is one of those looks where you'd think that the individual pieces wouldn't go together at all until you see the finished product. LOVE THIS!

Blogger TSM (The Style Maverick) said ... (11:00 AM) :

An interesting combination, but as Avinash stated the look does mirror offerings from Marc Jacobs. I love it! The eye makeup...that's subtle beauty yet daring and still in your face all at the same time. How did you find her?!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:05 AM) :

Being Indian myself, I have so far loved all of Sarts pics. I haven't visited India since I was a little kid and seriously do not remember such awesomely dressed people.

Blogger Marianna said ... (12:34 PM) :

I love how her shirt is buttoned up all the way with that really girly girly innocent print, and the tied hair too adds this extreme school-girl innocence but the overall look has a really contrasting ultra-cool hip edge with a lot of individuality and personality (for something that maybe could had been a school uniform with the objective of ppl blending in, well she surely sticks out of the crowd!)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:35 PM) :

Re: the Style Maverick,

If this is really Sohiny Das she wasn't that hard to find - it's fashion week in New Delhi

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:38 PM) :

Re: Zuki

Now that's the way to objectify people.

Wouldn't it be funny to have India's pre-eminent stylists and fashion critic on the front of Nat. Geo.

I'm surprised no-one else picked up on that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:54 PM) :

beutiful. child-like in her beauty. what a lovely and refreshing combination

Blogger dean said ... (2:02 PM) :

Gorgeous woman (girl?). Whether intended or not, she has brought elements from the streets of New York and combined them with the authenticity of her country and, I imagine, herself.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:08 PM) :

Her face is beautiful--terrific eyes especially. I'll be the dissenting voice and say I'm not enthralled by the outfit. I think it makes her waist look thick and her body a bit out of proportion to her head. I do like the way the bracelet goes with the shorts.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 PM) :

why would you think its unintended, Dean?

Blogger k said ... (3:19 PM) :

Completely captivating. Love every piece she's wearing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:20 PM) :

Ha ha! There is a woman in India with the same outfit as me! Except for those wonderful shoes. What's up, sister?

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:19 PM) :

Beautiful! Love the print on the shirt and the silver eyeliner. The whole outfit is amazing!

Blogger La Figlia Che Piange said ... (4:42 PM) :

I went to school with this girl. Pleasantly surprised to see her here of all places.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:45 PM) :

Saw the headshot and was like: "Meh, okay. Interesting."

Saw the bodyshot and was like: "WHOA! INTERESTING!!!"

The sandals, the tights (they're even patterned), the shorts, the bangle. Everything together is great.

I couldn't pull it off but I'm now inspired.

mltt

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:50 PM) :

damn, the colors of the outfit are in perfect harmony!
i just love that...

hey, i'm from brazil and i just loooove your page! keep the good working!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:56 PM) :

the colors of the outfit are in perfect harmony! keep the good working!

greetings from brazil!

Blogger discotheque confusion said ... (5:04 PM) :

It's the Prada-esque collar that I love; structured and boyish.

I'm so glad that you and your camera are in India; showing the world that it's not all saris and exotic brights, as, for some reason, Vogue still depicts it..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:32 PM) :

how old is she?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:41 PM) :

she looks quietly confident. well captured!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 PM) :

beautiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:53 PM) :

It's very MJ. Love it! Love her!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:03 PM) :

Probably THE two best shots you've ever taken.
You've really captured this girl... her personality and her clothes. And isn't that what great style is about?
A combination of the two? Give us more like this.

Blogger jst+crs said ... (6:30 PM) :

Its funny that the folks of India would need to be trasported to New York, London, etc... to earn their urbane, metropolitan fashion-forward stripes (as if being in India places them on some tiny island devoid of contact with the Western World). Great pics', just not a fan of the fashion-- the lines/silhouettes/fit are just to awkward for me (not to mention the patterns/color combos; not really daring just different from what's typically seen through the Euro-centric Western fashion).

Blogger Adrian said ... (7:21 PM) :

I love the whole look, I just wish she wore closed-toe shoes. That poor girl must be sweltering in those tights in the Indian heaT!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:59 PM) :

Good thing you didn't stumble when you approacher her, else you could have fallen into those eyes and you never would have landed.

cuffed short pants... pretty neat.

Blogger suzannemarques said ... (8:03 PM) :

great shorts & shoes. so cute!

Blogger Jen P. said ... (8:05 PM) :

inspirational - my eyes will be shining tommorow thanks to her x

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:23 PM) :

I'm not sure if you've address this in a previous post, but have you lost any great shots due to a language barrier?

Blogger elise.moran said ... (9:31 PM) :

i love her! her eyes are ridiculously beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:56 PM) :

So you're in India for fashion week! And I thought you'd be catching random street style. Hmmmm. The photos are excellent, if not representative of many Indians.

Blogger Kwana said ... (10:55 PM) :

She's beautiful. I just love those shorts! The proportions are great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 PM) :

Some of these comments make me incredibly uncomfortable. Fashion and style exist outside of European/American cities. Just because I am have brown skin, am stylish and work in fashion does not mean that I should be portrayed as some exotic alien on the cover of National Geographic. For the record: America also has "beggars and whatnot," on the streets — and India's individuals most definitely have their own sense of indigenous (and clearly ingenious) style. If anything, Miuccia and Marc are looking at this lovely woman — not girl— and thinking of copying her look for an upcoming season.

Blogger Max said ... (12:21 AM) :

The first photo is very Thomas Ruff. You're getting very good.

Blogger cris said ... (12:36 AM) :

I agree, love those shorts!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:44 AM) :

She just may be one of your greatest finds yet. This outfit and this girl are both just absolutely fabulous.

Blogger High Rhapsody said ... (1:37 AM) :

very cute..a little bit inspiring..reminds me of tokyo girls but less extreme.

Blogger Danielle Bumblebee said ... (1:59 AM) :

wow.. u really do have an eye for pretty things..

Blogger Kits said ... (3:40 AM) :

Great shot

Blogger Pratishtha Durga said ... (6:48 AM) :

Okay, NOW I am offended. No, not by the picture, but by Avinash's comment. Shame on you Avinash for sounding so surprised that an INDIAN could be so stylish. I mean, really, what world do you live in? When was the last time you walked down an Indian street? I suggest you do that really fast, and get your Indian sensibilities back in place.

It's great the The Sart is in India and has put New Delhi in spotlight, but really! You want to tell me that there are no badly dressed individuals in Manhattan and Milan? Reality check, young man... will do you some good.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:28 AM) :

love this! really!

Blogger pearlaceous said ... (7:47 AM) :

Amazing! Love the preppy/stylish look! The neatness of her pulled back hair, buttoned up blouse, and pleated shorts with the different prints of each item is great! Her bow mules and bangle add character, and her silver eyeliner is subtle and fresh..

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:53 AM) :

soda my soda....i love your look....as always...u make every piece on u so special...n great to read all d comments whole world is making...well shot...well posed...cheers :)

Blogger astublieft said ... (8:52 AM) :

Enjoying the focus on the closeup, the shirt is out of focused and the eyes are just right. it gives a beautiful refined depth to the picture. lovely outfit.

Very chic, top to bottom!

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:52 AM) :

really cool photo. I like the comment silver eyes. Short, sweet and to the point. This whole outfit is something I would definetly wear...including the silver eyes...

Blogger Michelle said ... (12:37 PM) :

This outfit is great—what a hard shirt to pull off!—and I think imagine it would also look fabulous with a pair of men’s-style oxfords.

Blogger Anastasia said ... (4:55 PM) :

gorgeous eyes and face!! not too keen on her outfit but she looks comfortable!!

Blogger Ashley said ... (10:08 PM) :

She's so pretty

Blogger H said ... (12:06 AM) :

What inspires me most as I step into this stylish young lady's gaze is the unexpected paradox between her seemingly girlish innocence and the ingenious retro styling that she is donning, this with such natural confidence. I am taken by her risqué choice in footwear. THAT is specifically what makes me melt of uttermost sympathy. Lovely!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 AM) :

This could probably be one of my favorites you have ever posted. So fun, and such beautiful, soft colors. I love it!
I, personally, from ignorance, wouldn't have thought you could find something like this in India. <3.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:47 AM) :

hmm i'm gonna have to copy her make-up, it's gorgeous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:10 AM) :

GORGE!

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:02 AM) :

thanks, Sart for the pic. the point of those tights was to beat the freezing airconditioning at FW. when you have an AC around here..you'd really like to show it off!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:13 AM) :

A great look... the blouse (to me) seems slightly western, a great pairing with the oversize shorts that have a pinkish tone that compliments the top. The masculinity is toned down with the girlish bows on the shoes, while the black tights add some drama and contrasting texture. The bangle is my favorite part: feminine, yet earthy and natural.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:03 PM) :

So who the hell is she? Never heard of such a stylist or "critique" but nevertheless she is very stylish.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:07 PM) :

To the Archives of my being.

It seems from the comments above that Sohiny is a sucessful and well-resected woman and doesn't need you melting in utmost sympathy over her shoes.

Blogger dean said ... (9:39 PM) :

Sat: I thought it might be unintended because I didn't want to assume this woman was consciously trying to incorporate New York. I don't incorporate New Delhi fashion into my wardrobe, so it would be silly of me to assume she bases her fashion on a North American sensibility. Or maybe not.

Blogger H said ... (8:01 PM) :

To aitch:
Your defensive and somewhat impulsive tone hardly intimidates me.
Perhaps you haven't quite grasped what I have expressed, which, in my mind evoked inspired admiration more than anything.
I strongly suggest you look up the meaning of "sympathy". Maybe then you'll comprehend.
And relax.

Hi Dean! You never know :)! Around the world, North American, to be precise: US culture/fashion/politics is a lot more exposed that New Delhi's, no?

Blogger art kids said ... (2:47 AM) :

this is great. i love her shoes!

Blogger Kallol Datta 1955 said ... (10:25 AM) :

@2:03 anon posting...

maybe, just maybe, the hellish reason you have not heard of Sohiny, is because you revel in mainstream fashion....

try looking out for avant garde fashion and you will spot her...

Blogger qi said ... (12:25 PM) :

She´s got the attitude and selfconfidence!

Blogger Cinderelliotte said ... (11:45 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:11 PM) :

Browsing through the comments I actually see how many people you reach out to now. It takes certain assignments to get the demographics commenting and most people don't understand that fashion and style is more about culture than location. Third-world countries such as India or the Philippines (you should come some time even though I'm in the states) are just as stylish as their Western counterparts but some people are too close-minded to see that. Keep it up playa deuce.
