Love this: well balanced top and bottom, a dapper cap; the black and white of the photo furthers the sense of retrospective style....

Just precious! (like the black and white)

So dignified. The upright posture would make any jacket hang really well.

Do they have 'adopt-a-grampa' in Italy? I want this guy!

What a beautiful photograph of a dignified, elegant, gentleman. This is a classic, timeless shot Mr. Schumann. Congratulations.

i love this photo. the shadows are beautiful, and the contrast between the geometric lines of the ground and the organic shapes of the shadows/trees in the background is very interesting to look at. not to mention that the man himself is a wonder. the look on his face is heart-warming and the wrinkles on his face and hands are signs of a life well lived (then and now). lovely.

and very, very dignified (that expression), might i add.

What a dude!

And I hope to look as debonair as this man! Especially in the northern regions, Milano, Venezia, Trieste Udine etc...the older generations always paid so much attention to thier own detail!

Love it!

Ciao per adesso!

A step back in time. I love your shots of the older generation. You capture them beautifully.

Scott this is really one of the best shots you've done photographic vise since I started following your blog one and a half year ago.
I love it! It's so full of feeling and something I can not put my finger on. You're amazing. Congratulations.

Sart, I'd love to hear what you said to this gentleman. And, how you asked him to pose for a photo. He looks so relaxed and comfortable.

You must be charming as all get-out!

I love how you get people to pose with "posing"...

This is so sensitive...
Well I'm a sucker for pictures of this kind. Not only the style, or the choice of not publishing it in colours, but the theme is so charming!!!!
Beautiful, Sart!

That jacket is eternal, the essence of civilization for all seasons. Plus the heart and beauty of a lifetime in its splendour, candour, dignity.
Thank you for the great images you offer us everyday.

this could almost pass up for an ad campaign.. not only it looks good but "feels" good as well.. it has such a subtle impact..

Blogger mimi said ... (7:02 PM) :

the image of the man reminds me of cartier breson's approach to capturing the humanity of a subject in a fleeting moment.

He achieves what style aspires to: effortless sophistication and grace. S, thanks for your diligent "good eye" and shutter skills!

If you were 18-24 and a girlfriend you were madly in love with just dumped you. This looks like a good guy to talk to.

Anonymous HINDU said ... (5:09 PM) :
