Comments on "On the Street......The Art Director, Milan"
Is this a usual way of carrying around a bag? I love it!
What a top bloke! Much better than those dreary fashion people you've been want to feature as of late.
Could the guy and his accoutrements--including roll under one arm--be any more perfectly "art person"?
Red is of course the story here, and a nice one it is, too.
Are amazing bikes standard issue in Italy? Where do they FIND these?!
I am in love. The perfect hair, shoes, coat-- and that bag! Which shows you don't have to dress like a messenger when you bike to work. Elegance on wheels.
the bike is the true work of art here.
The red is so well placed. As I've said before, your bicycle shots are some of the most wonderful.
just fabulous. the guy knows a style.
It's all about the red attache' slung over the bike. He probably custom ordered it and red boarskin, it looks like. Of course he had to wear a red scarf. A bit overkill for me. I would have prefered a print or stripe scarf with a hint of red...but that's just me. Molto chic!
Bello uomo. Bellissima bicicletta.
Also I echo the sentiments of mark, london.said above...nice to see someone whose elegance isn't just about who/what he's wearing, but the way he's living his life.
Nothing dreary about this man. Adore that red.
A striking man
and
stiking composition
from one art director
to another
Love love love that red.
Now this is owning your look! So very cool and inspiring to see an older gentleman still rocking real style.

What amazes me most is that Italians ride their bikes to work! I mean, look at those shoes! They must have very cyclist-friendly streets.
I am with mark, london. said...
a much needed bloke.
He looks dashing!!
achingly gracious
so typical of italian older folks... especially men...
Why are the Italians and French able to stay stylish as they age - so much more so than their American counterparts? Is it because we place a premium on fashion that suits the young in the US? Is it because we grow wider as we age in the US? (Is it because they are more fashionable at any age?) Or perhaps this is not true in the slightest. Who knows. His moustache goes a long way to emphasize both his perfect scarf and gorgeous mop of hair.
he looks sweet,, like a stylish grandpa with a cigar/fancy scent or something.. love the bike too although... my bike is way hotter ;)
This must be the most darling man ever pictured in The Sartorialist. Everything abut him, especially that bicycle, oozes la bonheur de vivre. everything is beautiful, every last detail is striking, it all seems so effortless.
i love the bike! its fabulous
So fabulous......I'm in love. He's utterly perfect.
LOVE him! Now, here is passion in everyday dressing. Leave it to the Italians! Amore, amore, amore, and it all looks perfectly natural and part of him, his look.
Sart, I love ur work from Europe. Your NY work, while technically fantastic, seems to have less fantastic subjects. Not your fault, of course. Unless, you are doing cool older folk or street people, as opposed to Hipster chic fashinistas. Why does fashion always look so studied in the US? You know, it isn't something I would have picked up, but your great pics and your flawless eye (I just know you get a feeling in your gut when you know you have to photograph someone...you don't hesitate. You just know it intuitively);my looking at your photos helps me see the subtlty, the difference between something natural and something more contrived as "statement" dressing. Bravo! and Grazie.
Does anyone know what 'the bike' is? I want one!
fantastic.
This man looks awesome! It is also great how the RED jumps out at you!
Classic italian style - Ferrari red indeed! I love it seeing people like this in Italy or France...
This is brilliant! like something out of a film. The reds and the briefcase and the bicycle and the man himself- he is brilliant-you are brilliant!
Does anyone know what kind of bag that is?
Lovely. Balanced. Friendly.
And can someone please let us know where you can get a bike like that? Who is the maker? I really want one!
so stylish , great scarf and briefcase
great shot Sart
what a charming man - love the satchel, the scarf and his salt/pepper hair!
ah... love love LOVE!!!
i love the bag, i have a girls' bike so it wouldn't work for me. but it is working for him!

So true, it's just so much more natural in these shots, fashion comes at such a much more subconscious level, it's not really fashion at all, it's just old fashioned style, charisma, panache, whatever you want to call it, except 'cool'.

that bicycle is beautiful, note the generator lights, and lovely leather brooks saddle
The bike is a Classic Pashley, I think. They are the Rolls Royce of bikes and actually very English rather than Italian.
The attache case is a typical Italian leather number - available to buy in any Italian office supplies store for 200 Euro in a multitude of colours.
Personally I'm not a fan of matching the red scarf to the red case - would have looked better to have the scarf in a different print but that's just London: we love to clash!
I think the colour combination is not by accident : Red and Black, Rosso e Nero are the colours of that Milanese soccer team...
It is a very perfect foto,
Kompliment!!!!
I know very well this "guy": he is one of the most famous creative director in Milan
Manuma - Do you know what bag he is carrying, what is the brand - this is THE perfect bag!
This is beyond awesome. I think I aspire to be like that when I'm grey-haired and mustachioed.
And I've always liked vintage bikes.
Is that a Pashley? It's funny, because this is a very British bicycle to be driving around, while his sensibilities seem specifically Milanese. The boldness of color in his accessories is something pretty specific to Italian men...The bike works, anyways.
This is amazing. I am just trying to bridge the gap between chic and tech, bypassing trendy, what you were saying at the top of the page. I love the way he's carrying his Kryptonite lock, I have the same one and its SO cumbersome (and super heavy). The bag is just great, I can't work out whether it's a 'bike bag' or a modified attache case. I've been thinking since I got into bikes (tech ones not lifestyle ones), how does one carry things WITHOUT a backpack??! I hope to get into creating some such masterpieces, but I'd like to own this guy's red one. If you get in touch with him ask him where it's from! And someone should start making those vests, I got a Stella McCartney/Adidas fluorescent pink number for £12 but have not yet worn it, maybe tomorrow...
love this.
totally nice man. love it . love differences.

I want to grow old with a man like this.
Amazing bike and red leather satchel. Even better that his scarf matches :)

Oh goodness, the second shot is so beautiful! I really love the depth of field, nice work!
