If I were 15 years younger, that's how I'd want to dress, too. (Including the hair, sans ciggy) This is SHARP. Too much youth faahion is intentionally sloppy or gimicky, but this rocks in style.

Anyway, the expression, the sinuous earbud cord, taken up by the hair, which is like a ship's prow, only backwards, and the "nasty" cig and mouth...

I think its the photo composition itself that makes it so striking, the white collar shirt and the white cigarette, the pale face..against the dark background

This guy is the epoitome of cool. The hair is pure asian. The cigarette makes it. I'm not a fan of smoking myself, but sometimes, just from a visual standpoint, a cigarette can be a good accessorie.
But how can you ignore the cigarette? It's all part of his glare! Great shot!
Oh come on with the disclaimers. Have the strength of your convictions. The look wouldn't have nearly the impact without the cancer stick. Besides, it's unllit!
It would be unwise to discount the cigarette as a fashion statement/icon. Like it or not, it is a powerful image, and part of this look.
The hair is... interesting; I have my doubts about other angles.

Wrt " come to asia and almost everyone looks like that" - this is so not true. I live and travel in Asia, have never seen anyone with this exact 'mood' in conjunction with the great suit with the stand up collar
