post a commentI believe they were invited to move from London to Paris in the 1800s to serve Napoleon III, along with Creed (fragrances). Creed moved but they stayed and we are glad they did!

More pictures like this please. BTW, there is an article this morning in the Washington Post Style section about pocket squares, accompanied by 12 pictures of squares from J. Press, Brooks, Pink, Burberry and others. Cool.
Yup, that's just how it's supposed to look. Note how he is a bit portly yet the jacket is cut to show some waist suppression. Everything is just right.

While to me he just looks like another well suited person..I will say after adouble take I realized there are little details to take note of ...his cufs showing, the fit of the suit....and classic timeless fabric pattern.....those are the thing in my opinion that can tell onlooker if the suit is appealing or not.....sometimes when someone looks good it's these nuances that are there for the appreciation.

I’m pretty certain that this is a photo of Angus Cundy…right? Cundy is managing director of Henry Poole and is indeed a direct descendant of Poole. There is a superb history of Poole by author Stephen Howarth.
Indeed Poole had a Paris operation for a time during the late 1800’s. I’ve seen one of their ledger books from the turn of the century and it’s amazing to see all of the personages that were clothed by this Savile Row stalwart.

wow...the pick stitching, the handmade buttonholes, the way the sleeve is set by hand at the shoulder/armhole...absolutely sublime!!!
He looks like a 1937 Bentley! Timeless, elegant. He shows a lot of cuff; clearly this is a handmade suit, and I find it interesting that he chose a short sleeve ( a look I prefer actually).

i know it's an old suit but doesn't it seem sort of wrinkled to you guys?
i like wrinkles in casual suits (tweeds etc), but this doesn't look so good for me. i suppose the idea is to show that the suits made here last decades, the apparent age of this fellow's suit.
A 2-piece bespoke suit at Poole starts at about $4000 at current exchange rates.
anon 857pm, those aren't wrinkles, my good friend. That's called a day's work. Do you expect this gentleman to steam his suit over his midday turkey sandwich?

I think this older man looks ever so dapper. However, I think his lapel needs some pressing..
